The
Naturalists

Painted in the late 1870's this painting is an oil on canvas and measures
20 3/8" x 25 1/8" and hangs in the Corcoran Gallery of Art.
Vibert
depicts two gentlemen in eighteenth century costume engaged in their pursuit
of butterfly collecting. The man with the net and hat full of butterflies,
may be the servant, and the gentleman with the book to identify the species,
the master.
Vibert
had also done another painting of a similar subject with the same name
showing two men, one with a magnifying glass the other with a book, admiring
an insect.
