The
Wrath of the Bishop It
depicts the displeasure of the clergy with the press of the time. The
purple clad bishop, livid with rage, is seated at his desk, and crushes
under his foot, like some heretical doctrine, a copy of L'Intransigeant
a paper known for it's liberal views. Pen in hand he appears to await
divine inspiration to compose his reply to the article which has clearly
offended him so much. The detail in this painting is incredible and almost
looks as if it could be a photograph. |
